YEREVAN. – The 86 percent of the respondents in Armenia has confidence in the combat-readiness of the country’s army.

The director of the Gallup International Association Armenia Office, Aram Navasardyan, stated the abovementioned at a press conference on Monday, as he presented the results of their latest survey.

Accordingly, to the query on the reasons for Azerbaijan’s most recent acts of sabotage on its line of contact with the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) and its border with Armenia, 38 percent responded that Azerbaijan is attempting to take advantage of the domestic political situation in Armenia.

“Twenty-seven percent stated that Azerbaijan is exacerbating the situation to distract its own public’s attention from the internal problems.

“Twenty-two percent believes that Azerbaijan, being aware of its failure in the [Karabakh] negotiation process, is trying to provoke a war.

“Fifteen percent thinks that the current situation is dictated by outside forces.

“[And] fourteen percent believes that this situation is due to the fact of Azerbaijan’s buying weapons from Russia and other countries,” Navasardyan said.

He added that another three percent links this to the Armenian Genocide Centennial.

And to the question on the extent of their confidence that the Armed Forces of Armenia and the Defense Army of the NKR will be able counterblow Azerbaijan henceforth, 52 percent of respondents stated that they are completely confident, and another 34 percent noted that they are rather confident in this.
