YEREVAN. – The Armenian lawmakers put off vote on 12-year compulsory education till Wednesday.

The ruling Republican Party of Armenia insisted on the urgent vote, but other parties said hasty decision would harm the fundamental law.

“We will give you a day during which committee on education will invite the minister of education and science to agree on the final version of the law,” Speaker Galust Sahakyan said.

The new bill envisages amendments to the law on compulsory education, according to which nine years will be replaced by twelve starting from 2017.
