YEREVAN. - Everyone noticed the absurd conduct of the Azerbaijani delegation in Vietnam, Armenia’s ruling party MP Karine Achemyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am on Wednesday while commenting on the participation of the Armenian delegation in the 132nd session of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in Hanoi on March 26-April 1.
The Azerbaijani delegation boycotted the previous two sessions after the Assembly canceled and postponed the session in Baku. “This time their delegation consisted of two MPs. For unknown reasons they were accompanied by the representatives of the Turkish embassy,” Achemyan said.
During the session convened on the questions of human rights, the Azerbaijani representative began to speak about the “20 per cent occupation of their territory,” ignoring the fact that the topic of his speech had nothing to do with the meeting. In his broken English, the Head of the Azerbaijani delegation expressed his discontent on the non-inclusion of their requirements in the Assembly documents.
“I calmly responded that Armenia didn’t occupy any territory, and that our country’s leadership is for the negotiation process. After this the Azerbaijani delegation left the chamber and didn’t take part in the further sessions. They seem to not know where they are heading and keep repeating the same thing everywhere. Their speech brought about surprise and condescending smiles on the faces of the participants,” Achemyan said.
Armenian delegation has never declined to take part in sessions and actively participated in the discussion of the main topics, which included the struggle against terrorism, illegal drug trade and other problems.
