YEREVAN. – None of the U.S. senators denies the Armenian Genocide, Armenian MP Artak Zakaryan said in parliament on Thursday.

“I remember the meeting in 2010 in the Committee on Foreign Relations of the U.S. Senate, along with my colleagues Koryun Nahapetyan and the late Vahan Hovhannisyan. None of 46 senators, including those who officially voted against Genocide initiatives, denied the crime in private conversations with us. All stated that Genocide should be acknowledged and condemned. The reason they are not doing this stems from economic and political interests,” Zakaryan said, speaking about the draft statement calling for foreign parliaments' recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

Recognition of the Armenian Genocide by many countries and at the regional level is a result of consistent work of Armenia and Diaspora. Therefore, the statements by the opposition Armenian National Congress that Armenia should not support Diaspora in her demands for justice are not reasonable, said Zakaryan, chairman of standing committee on foreign affairs.
