YEREVAN. – Private entrepreneurs are not yet interested in waste recycling in Armenia’s provinces.

The First Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations, Vache Terteryan, stated the aforesaid Wednesday at the National Assembly. He noted this while introducing the draft agreement for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) loan and grant to be provided for upgrading the landfills in the country’s Kotayk Province and in the City of Sevan.

The respective project provides for the supply of new garbage removal equipment to the community authorities, and the construction of new landfills.

Nonetheless, as per Terteryan, it does not yet seem possible that waste sorting and recycling will be included in Armenia’s provinces.

“The business is not interested in it,” the deputy minister explained. “In [capital city] Yerevan, yes, but in the provinces, no.”
