Prime Minister of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan, who is in the Czech Republic on an official visit, on Tuesday met with President Jan Hamáček of the Czech Chamber of Deputies.

Hamáček recorded the high level of bilateral relations, and underscored the Armenian PM’s official visit to the Czech Republic. Head of the Czech Chamber of Deputies also highlighted the deepening of interparliamentary ties, and considered it indispensible to further develop cooperation in the economic sphere and within the framework of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) program of the European Union (EU).

Abrahamyan, for his part, noted that the Armenia-Czech Republic relations and political discourse have intensified in recent years. He drew attention to the role of parliamentary diplomacy and the Armenian-Czech interparliamentary cooperation.

The PM also considered it a necessity to further intensify trade and economic ties. He noted that the Czech Republic is one of Armenia’s important partners in Europe, and he underscored the need for deeper collaboration along the lines of the EaP and in other formats of Armenia-EU cooperation.

Hovik Abrahamyan noted that the Armenian side highly appreciates the official Czech delegation’s attendance to the Armenian Genocide Centennial commemorations that were held in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia, in April. He also thanked the Foreign Relations Committee of the Czech Chamber of Deputies for passing a resolution on Armenian Genocide.

The interlocutors also reflected on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. They stressed that this conflict must be resolved within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, and as a result of peace talks.

Hovik Abrahamyan and Jan Hamáček also discussed several other matters of mutual interest, and highlighted cooperation within international platforms.

After the talk, the Abrahamyan-led delegation visited the Senovážné Square in the Czech capital city of Prague, where it placed a wreath to the cross-stone that symbolizes Armenian-Czech friendship.
