YEREVAN. – Armenia exported 280 tons of cherries since the beginning of 2015, said Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan at Thursday’s Cabinet session.

Karapetyan added that apricot exports, which promise large amounts this year, will begin in ten days.

In the minister’s words, vegetable exports—including greenhouse vegetables—are active, too. Accordingly, 2,000 tons of cucumbers and 270 tons of tomatoes were exported from Armenia since the beginning of the year.

As per Karapetyan, the greenhouses in the country fully provide for the local market and rule out the need to import vegetables from abroad.

“The vegetables now being sold [in Armenia] are only local,” the minister assured.

As for vegetables grown in open land areas, Karapetyan informed that 8,860 tons of cabbage has been exported since the beginning of 2015

“Exports continue, and 300 to 500 tons of fruits and vegetables are taken out of the republic every day,” concluded the minister of agriculture of Armenia.
