YEREVAN. – The youth union of Alliance centrist party will organize a protest action against electricity price hike in Republic Square on June 10.
The statement issued by the organization said one of the main demands is to launch criminal case against Electric Networks of Armenia on the charges of theft and corruption.
“People will not pay for the actions of arrogant officials,” the statement reads.
The current electricity rate is 41.85 drams per 1 kWh during the day and 31.85 at night. However, it is proposed to increase the rate to 58 and 48 drams respectively. Although State Public Services Regulatory Commission has not made a decision yet, chairman of the service Robert Nazaryan told reporters that the price would be increased.
