STEPANAKERT. - The kangaroo trial of Arsen Baghdasaryan, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) captive, who is currently in Azerbaijan, once again came to demonstrate the practices that rule in Azerbaijan, Davit Babayan, Spokesperson for NKR President told Armenian News – NEWS.am, commenting on the continuation of the kangaroo trial in the Appellate Court and the statements attributed to Baghdasaryan by the Azerbaijani media.

“Firstly, the credibility of the statements attributed to him raises the strongest doubts, considering that the process is going on behind close doors, the information entering the media through official channels. But even if those statements correspond to reality, they have been made out of desperation, under torture and derision. Everyone knows how the captive Armenians are treated in Azerbaijan. Similar treatment appears with regard to their own human rights defenders and opposition. The example of Leyla Yunus tells a lot – threats, derision, torture, violence,” Davit Babayan said.

Babayan expressed regret with the fact that the international community closes its eyes to the enumerated facts. “Nobody has proposed to hand over the captive in Azerbaijan to the Karabakh side, whereas many transfer applications were made for the killers and cutthroats convicted in Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijani authorities act on the lines of ISIL: they torture the captives, record them and then demonstrate the record to the whole world,” Davit Babayan said.
