A wide variety of fruit grows in abundance around Meghri, a town in southern Armenia, Deutsche Welle reports in its news story.
Little is exported, because of the lack of money to modernize the local cannery. However, the situation will change due to special investment funds.
According to the news story, “In winter the small town of Meghri can often be difficult to reach. From the local canning factory you have to travel 400 kilometers through the mountains to reach the capital Yerevan. That makes everything expensive, except for the fruit, which grows here in abundance. To remain competitive, the cannery urgently needed to modernize.”
