Enrique Hernández, who was killed during an election campaign rally on May 14, has won the mayoral election in Yurécuaro, Mexico, reported Univision.
In the election that was conducted on June 7, a total of 36.9 percent of the voters cast their ballots in favor of Hernández.
The politician, who was fighting against organized crime, became more popular after the murder, the local media report.
The Morena movement, which had nominated Enrique Hernández as its mayoral candidate, had nominated another candidate as his impersonation, and this person took office as mayor, reported RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.
