The Prime Minister of Armenia, Hovik Abrahamyan, on Wednesday received International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) official Hans Wanner.

The PM highly praised the level of cooperation with the IAEA, and he noted that Armenia fulfills its international obligations simultaneously improving its national laws on nuclear safety.

Wanner, for his part, underscored the Armenian government’s willingness to consistently carry out its respective commitments.

The interlocutors discussed the avenues for broadening cooperation in nuclear safety.

The IAEA representative presented the study results and recommendations by the mission he heads, and with respect to regulation of nuclear power usage safety in Armenia and its continuous meeting with the IAEA safety standards.

Hovik Abrahamyan and Hans Wanner also underscored the need to take continuous measures for raising the safety of Armenia’s nuclear power plant (NPP). In this connection, PM Abrahamyan noted that the NPP’s safe operation and raising its safety level are on the focus of the Armenian government, and the latter will continue its respective collaboration with the IAEA.
