YEREVAN. – Armenia should consider possibility of turning to multilevel electricity rate, chairman of “Consumer Consultation Center” NGO Karen Chilingaryan said.
“If someone consumes less, he can afford less. The government must help these people. This system is applied in neighboring Georgia, and is rather successful,” he said.
Georgia introduced a three-staged tariff rate in summer 2006 during the economic reforms by Kakha Bendukidze. The rate suggested differentiation for consumption of 100, 100-300 and over 300 kWh.
