Armenia has improved its position in the Global Peace Index climbing six lines from last year’s  97th to 91.

Among the regional states Armenia and Georgia (79) remain the most peace-loving nations.
The neighboring  Azerbaijan is ranked 132nd, Turkey – 135th and Iran – 138th.

Last year's leader Iceland preserved its status as the most peaceful country, while Syria is the last in the list.

Russia is ranked 152nd, two lines behind Ukraine.

The Global Peace Index is the world’s leading measure of national peacefulness. Now in its eighth year, it ranks 162 nations according to their ‘absence of violence’. It is composed of 22 indicators, ranging from a nation’s level of military expenditure to its relations with neighbouring countries and the percentage of prison population.
