YEREVAN. – Armenia did not refuse to sign the Association Agreement with the European Union (EU).

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian, noted the above-said at the Rose-Roth seminar of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, and which got underway Thursday in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan.

In Nalbandian’s words, it is not because of Armenia that the EU-Armenia Association Agreement was not signed, and this had completely different reasons.

“We [i.e. Armenia] offered to sign the political part of the Association Agreement, but we were told that it is a complete document,” the Armenian FM said. “And subsequently, the agreement on the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area was signed with Ukraine.”

At the same time, however, Edward Nalbandian expressed the hope that the EU Council will approve the mandate in the coming days, and as a result, it will be possible to continue the Armenia-European Union talks.
