YEREVAN. – The price of irrigation water will not increase in Armenia this year.

Chairman of the State Committee on Water Economy, Aram Harutyunyan, told the aforesaid to reporters on Thursday.

“The electricity [price] hike will not affect its [i.e. the irrigation water] price. [But] it’s [altogether] another matter that an issue of additional subsidy may arise for the water users that spend electricity for the activities of [water] pumps,” Harutyunyan announced. “We will calculate how much to increase these subsidies.”

The Public Services Regulatory Commission has increased the price of electricity in Armenia, and this decision will take effect on August 1. This decision, however, is expected to be followed by an increase in the prices of numerous products and services in the country.
