The trial of Russian Armenian businessman Levon Hayrapetyan will get underway on July 15 at the Moscow City Court, Hayrapetyan’s relatives told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

On April 13, the case, which was brought against Hayrapetyan, was separated from the case against the Bashneft Russian oil company, and solely the charge on misappropriation of funds had remained against him.

Levon Hayrapetyan was detained in a Moscow airport on July 15, 2014, and subsequently arrested. On July 24 of the same year, the Russian Federation Investigation Committee brought two criminal charges against him: embezzlement or misuse, and money laundering. On September 12, 2014, the Russian Armenian businessman was charged with fraud, too. On October 3 of the same year, however, a Moscow district court ruled in favor of releasing Hayrapetyan from prison and placing him under house arrest. Even though Levon Hayrapetyan has health problems, he was kept in prison for a long time. On December 10, 2014, Hayrapetyan’s pre-trial detention period was extended for four more months.
