The U.S. State Department issued a security message to its citizens calling on them to remain vigilant during the European Games in Baku.

“The Department of State remains concerned about the continued threat of terrorist attacks, demonstrations, and other violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests overseas.

We encourage U.S. citizens to familiarize themselves with the World Wide Caution updated January 9, 2015. Americans are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement authorities and the U.S. Embassy. We recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Azerbaijan enroll in the Department of State's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). The STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. Embassy to contact you in an emergency,” the message says.
