YEREVAN. - Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan conveyed condolences on the death of the Armenian Catholic Church Patriarch, His Beatitude Nerses Bedros XIX.

Sargsyan noted that being energetic and authoritative spiritual leader, the Catholicos played an important role in maintaining the Armenian identity in the Diaspora, activating spiritual and cultural life, as well as deepening and establishing closer comprehensive ties between Armenia and the Diaspora.

As a member of state commission coordinating the Armenia Genocide Centenary Commemoration events, the Catholicos took an active part in its work.  

“I express my deepest condolences on the death of the eminent religious leader and honorable son of the Armenian nation,” the president said.
