YEREVAN. – In parallel with a reduction in the consumption of imported products in Armenia, people in the country have starting using more domestic agricultural products.

Deputy Prime Minister Vache Gabrielyan, who is also the Minister of International Economic Integration and Reforms, told the above-said to reporters on Friday.

“Along with a growth in economic activity, the flow of foreign remittances—which are primarily used for consumer spending—has unfortunately reduced in the republic,” noted Gabrielyan. “And since imported products make up the bulk of retail trade, the import volumes also have reduced.

“On the other hand, we have a considerable agricultural growth this year, and an increase in the local fruit and vegetable offer is noticeable in retail trade, [and] which is welcome.”

According to the National Statistical Service data, the agriculture sector in Armenia grew by 14.5 percent in the first half of the current year.
