YEREVAN. - Armenia’s aviation will not be commercially viable without attracting regional passengers, Armen Ter-Tachatyan, economist and head of “Ter-Tachatyan” consulting company told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

According to him, one shouldn’t focus only on the domestic market, as Armavia and Air Armenia did, otherwise it will be merely impossible to survive: “You can’t build up a normal market and bring new planes for 1,5 million passengers. But who said, that one should focus on domestic market? Ostap Bender was right: More people travel in the world. There must be people who make money from this. Thus, it’s necessary to think about transit flights,” Ter-Tachatyan said.

In 1998, Armenia already had such experience, he said. There was no regular air connection between southern Russia and Europe then, and currently it’s still possible to make money from this. “So, our airline companies have a lot to think about,” Armen Ter-Tachatyan said.
