STEPANAKERT. – President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR; Artsakh), Bako Sahakyan, on Thursday signed a decree. 

Accordingly, Private Karen Hovhannisyan of the NKR Defense Army has been posthumously awarded the Medal for Service in Battle, and in recognition of his bravery shown during the defense of Artsakh’s state borders.

Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned the aforementioned from the Central Information Department of the Office of the NKR President.

NKR military serviceman Karen Hovhannisyan sustained a fatal gunshot wound from an Azerbaijani bullet, on Wednesday at around 12:30pm.

The soldier was mortally wounded in the line of duty of a protection area of an NKR Defense Army unit, which is stationed in an easterly direction.

An investigation is underway to find out the details of this incident.
