At the court hearing on fraudulently extorting money from Patriarchal Vicar of Constantinople, Archbishop Aram Ateşyan, the defendant Kemal Tayfun Nargin announced that the former EU Minister Egemen Bağış wanted to take Sansaryan Han, a building belonging to the Armenian patriarchate, and turn it into a hotel.

The defendant also insisted that he had worked in the National Intelligence Service until 2012, and then learnt that Turkey’s President Erdogan promised Archbishop Ateşyan to return the building called Sansaryan Han, Turkish BitGun newspaper reports.

“If the building was turned over to the Patriarchate, the right to use it would belong to the latter. Otherwise, Egemen Bağış wanted to take it and turn into a hotel,” said Kemal Tayfun Nargin who exorted 6,000 lira from Archbishop Ateşyan.

On one occasion, Archbishop Ateşyan had requested Erdogan to support the Patriarchate in returning the Sansaryan Han which used to belong to the Armenians, and had receives a positive response. A few days later Kemal Tayfun Nargin came to the Patriarchate insisting that he was from the Premiere’s office and that they were going to return the Sansaryan Han to the Patriarchate.

He requested and received 6,000 lira from the Archbishop for the fast formulation of documents and then disappeared. Realizing he had been deceived, Archbishop Ateşyan had filed a case with the court. Currently, the defendant is in prison on charge of another crime.
