YEREVAN. – Since Tigran Sargsyan’s recent appointment to the post of Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission, which is the executive body of the Eurasian Economic Union, the political backstage is discussing who might replace him as the Ambassador of Armenia to the United States (US), reported Haykakan Zhamanak daily.

“At the moment, Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan is seen the most probable among the candidates, considering that an arrangement has already been made with the highest echelons of power [in Armenia] that, after the constitutional referendum is passed [on December 6], the position of Minister of Education and Science will be given to the Armenian Revolutionary [Federation (ARF)] Dashnaktsutyun [Party]. But Ashotyan is [President] Serzh Sargsyan’s favorite minister, and naturally, they will not leave him out of the [ruling] system [of the country].

“What final decision will be made will become clear in the not-so-distant future.

“[However,] a quick decision is needed in the matter of the Ambassador, since it takes months to obtain an agrément [for being accredited Armenia’s ambassador to US],” wrote Haykakan Zhamanak.
