All necessary preconditions exist for a rapprochement between the European Union (EU) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced the aforementioned speaking at the joint meeting of the Collegium of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Russia and Belarus.

“The corresponding recommendations for starting a [respective] discourse are recently transferred to the Eurasian Economic Commission [which is the executive body of the EEU],” Lavrov said, reported RIA Novosti news agency of Russia. “We hope that they will receive constructive feedback also from the European Commission.”

The current EEU member countries are Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and most recently, Kyrgyzstan.
