Former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert was once accused of taking a bribe from the Turkish government, law professor Ann Lousin said in an interview with Illinois Radio Network.

Lousin, law professor at the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, said Hastert once had an “impeccable reputation” in public office, but his career was not without controversy, such as when he was accused of taking a bribe from the Turkish government to kill a U.S. House resolution recognizing the 1915 Armenian genocide.

However, professor predicts that Hastert will avoid prison term.

Earlier this week Hastert pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI in a hush-money scheme.
