YEREVAN. – German President Joachim Gauck’s statement on Armenian Genocide was vague and maneuvering.

Member of the Armenian Genocide Committee of Germany, Jirayr Kocharian, who is also Associate Professor at the at Freie Universitaet Berlin, Germany, told the aforementioned at Friday’s press conference in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan.

In his words, however, President of the Bundestag (Parliament), Norbert Lammert, was the only person to directly condemn the Armenian Genocide.

“The information and events on the Armenian Genocide Centennial were so many this year in Germany that we [i.e. the German Armenian community] were very surprised,” Kocharian said. “We were confident that the Armenian Genocide would be recognized and condemned [this year in Germany]. Unfortunately, no such thing happened.”

As per the armenologist, in all likelihood, the Armenian Genocide recognition issue will no longer be debated in the Bundestag in the current year.

“A Bundestag MP from the leftist party said the Armenian issue may be tabled again at the Bundestag on April 24, 2016,” Jirayr Kocharian added.
