Shushanik T., 35, who had poisoned herself and her four-year-old daughter with mercury in Masis town in the Ararat Province of Armenia, is still in psychiatric hospital, one of her acquaintances told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Sometime thereafter, the little girl, who was transferred to capital city Yerevan and diagnosed with mercury poisoning, was discharged from “Muratsan” Hospital Complex.

Shushanik’s maternal grandparents are now caring for the four-year-old child.

On September 16, Shushanik, who is a divorced chemistry teacher, had drunk mercury oxide and silver nitrate and then given mercury oxide to her four-year-old daughter, Syuzi M.

As a result, the stomach, the throat, and mouth of the child had burned from the mercury oxide.

A criminal case was opened on charges of attempted murder.
