The Azerbaijani side, on behalf of haqqin.az and Turan agencies, acknowledged the attempts of the country’s official institutions to falsify the history of the Karabakh conflict. 

According to the source, several years ago, a documentary titled “Asker was shot in cooperation with the Ministry of National Security (MNS), in which an attempt was made to falsify the history of Karabakh War in favor of the ostensible merits of the MNS. To illustrate this, the fact of the Armenian nationalist militant and commander Monte Melkonyan’s murder in 1993 was chosen.

“Vigilant chekists decided to “privatize” this topic and involved in this Ibad Huseynov – one of the [Azeri] soldiers in self-defense formations. In 2005, he suddenly remembered that exactly he had killed Melkonian, cutting his head, and started demonstrating this photo in each corner. The foolish and funny idea at the first sight soon won active supporters, who decided to make political and material capital on this. The “hero” began to be glorified and praised, urging the youth to learn by his example. The vigilant MNS decided to pick up its piece of pie and presented I. Huseynov as their spy, who had received a task from the MNS,” the newspapers write.

However, MNS leadership, Huseynov himself and his sponsors all failed to consider that Melkonian’s funeral was documented. And the funeral footages show very well that his head was in its place.  

Despite all this, for a long time the MNS tried to press those who first investigated and published the materials. When these materials were presented to the MNS leadership, the institution’s spokesman began to blame the journalist for working for Armenians, attempting to mislead the public opinion and other sins. During this “showdown” - as the spokesman put it – it became known that exactly MNS initiated shooting the film and they knew very well that I. Huseynov didn’t have the faintest idea whose head he had cut!

“Meanwhile, the Azerbaijani soldiers looked extremely silly against the backdrop of accusing Armenians,” the media outlets write.
