YEREVAN. – Any country that arms each of the parties to the Karabakh conflict actually contributes to the continuation of the conflict.

NATO Liaison Officer to the South Caucasus Region, William “Bill” Lahue, stated the aforesaid on Tuesday, and within the framework of the ongoing NATO Week in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia.

He recalled that even though NATO is not directly involved in the resolution of this conflict, there are organizations that are engaged in this task. 

Lahue said the ongoing conflict certainly has an impact on the whole region, and this adversely reflects not solely on security, but also on the future and he economic progress.

The NATO representative noted that although the matter of deploying peacekeepers in the Karabakh conflict zone is an interesting concept, it is not a part of NATO’s objectives. Bill Lahue added, however, that this issue can be discussed if Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the other interested parties wish to do so.
