YEREVAN. - Peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict has no alternative, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, Ambassador Herbert Salber, said at the meeting with Armenia’s FM Edward Nalbandian today.
At the meeting the parties attached importance to the provision of a mandate by the Council of the European Union to the EU Commission for talks on creating new legal basis of relations with Armenia, Armenia’s MFA press-service reports.
FM Nalbandian expressed hope that the talks will result in drawing up a document which will reflect the joint commitment to raise the mutually beneficial relations between Armenia and EU to a new level, outlining the comprehensive cooperation in the areas of mutual interest
The interlocutors discussed the efforts made by Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries to advance the negotiation process round the Karabakh issue.
Mr. Salber said that the peaceful settlement of the issue has no alternative, reconfirming EU’s support to the negotiations going on in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs format.
