STEPANAKERT. – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) representatives on Monday visited the prisoner of war, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) citizen Andranik Grigoryan, who had crossed the Line of Contact on March 22, and provided him with an opportunity to exchange family news.
Communication officer of the ICRC mission in the NKR, Eteri Musayelyan, informed about the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
“The visit was conducted in line with the standard ICRC procedures,” Musayelyan added. “According to its mandate, the ICRC visits detainees to monitor their treatment and conditions of detention, and help to ensure that they are able to maintain contact with their families.”
NKR Defense Army conscript, Private Andranik Grigoryan (born in 1991), had crossed over to the adversary’s side on March 22, leaving weapons and ammunition behind on the line of duty.
On the next day, Azerbaijani websites violated international humanitarian law and released footage of Grigoryan’s “crossing over” and subsequent “interview.” The NKR Defense Army, however, released a statement noting that the said footage was fully staged.
Aside from Andranik Grigoryan, NKR citizen Arsen Baghdasaryan is also still under Azerbaijani captivity.
