The European Union (EU) respects the choice of Armenia and its decision to become a member in the Eurasian Economic Union. 

The EU European External Action Service (EEAS) Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, Regional Cooperation and OSCE, Gunnar Wiegand, stated the aforesaid before the start of Wednesday’s sixteenth meeting of the EU-Armenia Cooperation Committee.

In his words, various economic challenges have emerged in the region. Wiegand stressed, however, that the EU is still an important partner of Armenia in terms of trade and investment. He added that the EU also provides financial assistance to Armenia in order to carry out reforms in the country.

The EU official recalled that they have been given a mandate to conduct talks with Armenia, and regarding the signing of an innovative and important agreement.
