YEREVAN. - I would not be against visiting Nagorno-Karabakh, but there are certain preconditions which should be taken as reality, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, Ambassador Herbert Salber told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am after the meeting with Karabakh FM Karen Mirzoyan today, responding to the question of Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent on his not visiting Karabakh in the framework of his regional visit to South Caucasus in order to learn about the situation on the ground.
“We are discussing this issue and we should see where it goes,” Herbert Salber said. Referring to the question on what issues were discussed with Karabakh FM, he said that the interlocutors had shared the assessment of the situation. “We certainly agree that there is a lot of escalation, and certainly there is a desire to limit it. We hope that process in the near future will take place to reduce this escalation,” Salber said.
Referring to the reason of the escalation, he said: “I would not at this stage say clearly what the reason is. Depending on the incidents, differend sides are blaming each other. And I think somebody who does not have access, who is not present on the side, can’t decide who is right and who is wrong.”
