YEREVAN. - The cooperation between the Nagorno-Karabakh and EU can positively impact the further development and enhancement of democratic institutions of Nagorno-Karabakh, Karabakh FM Karen Mirzoyan said the aforementioned at the meeting with the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, Ambassador Herbert Salber, held in Yerevan today.
According to him, this was the second meeting with Ambassador Sambler. “Such meetings are, of course, important in terms of continuing the communication between the representatives of EU and Karabakh. I presented the democratic processes which took place in Karabakh following our last meeting, specifically [referring to] the results of the parliamentary elections held in May,” Mirzoyan said.
In his word, they also exchanged opinions on the current stage of normalizing the conflict. “We agreed that it’s necessary to stop the further attempts of escalating the situation and focus the efforts on finding ways to [its] peaceful normalization,” Karabakh FM said.
Referring to the talks on introducing peacekeeping forces to Karabakh, Mirzoyan said: “I’m sure that the best peacekeeping forces are already in the zone of Karabakh conflict - this is the Defense Army of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.”
