YEREVAN. - About 70 ha of modern greenhouse facilities were opened in Yerevan in 2015, Armenia’s Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan said today in the parliament during hearings on draft state budget for 2016.  

In the coming years, the business is planning to open another 40-50 ha. This will enable to satisfy the republic’s demand of vegetables in winter months, the Minister said.

According to Karapetyan, it’s also desirable for single farmers to open smaller greenhouses, which will allow them stay busy in winter and have additional income.

To support them, a consultation center for greenhouse owners - with 3 small sample facilities – was established in Darakert village of Armenia’s Ararat province.  “We have also given farmers the opportunity of low interest credits in order for them to develop greenhouse facilities and buy affordable Italian and Israeli greenhouse systems,” Karapetyan said.
