YEREVAN. – At present, substantial fluctuations are not expected in the exchange rate of Armenia’s national currency, the dram, economist Mikayel Mikayelyan said at a press conference on Friday.

In his words, the fluctuation in the dram’s exchange rate is due to the fluctuations in Armenia’s economy.

As per Mikayelyan, in each and every healthy economy, the fluctuation in the exchange rate of a national currency should be consistent with the economic development of the given country.

“Armenia’s economy is quite monopolized,” the economist stressed. “The biggest threat to the country’s economy is corruption. And corruption, naturally, is linked to the authorities and the officials. Corruption is not eradicated by setting up commissions and councils; just political will is needed.”
