YEREVAN. – Vice President of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Eduard Sharmazanov, who is on a working visit to the Belarusian capital city of Minsk and has attended Friday’s swearing-in ceremony of the President of Belarus, had a private talk—on the same day—with speaker Vladimir Andreichenko of the Belarusian House of Representatives.

The NA informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that the parties discussed issues regarding the further development of parliamentary cooperation. They highlighted the cooperation at international parliamentary platforms, particularly, within the CSTO Parliamentary and the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assemblies.

Both parties emphasized the rapprochement of the cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). In this connection, Sharmazanov noted that despite numerous challenges, Armenia’s accession into the EEU was justified.

Andreichenko, for his part, reaffirmed his invitation for an official visit to Belarus by an Armenian delegation led by NA President Galust Sahakyan.

The NA deputy speaker, touching upon the challenges of regional security, highlighted the need for a solely pacific settlement of conflicts, and condemned any attempt at their resolution through military means.

Eduard Sharmazanov also expressed his gratitude to Vladimir Andreichenko for assisting in erecting an Armenian cross-stone eternalizing the memory of the Armenian soldiers, who had died for the liberation of the Brest Fortress in Belarus, during the Great Patriotic War.

The NA vice president also proposed to convene the tenth meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the National Assemblies of Armenia and Belarus in Yerevan, the capital city of Yerevan, next spring.
