YEREVAN. - The format of the OSCE Minsk Group dealing with Karabakh issue is working, and it’s necessary to continue it, the newly appointed UK Ambassador to Armenia Judith Farnworth told Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent, referring to the adoption of the British MP Robert Walter’s report on Nagorno-Karabakh in PACE.

Touching on the stance of the UK government on that issue, the Ambassador said that the UK government can’t dictate the PACE members what to control, since they are independent. Ms Farnworth also said that she has held discussions with the representatives of the Armenian MFA on that occasion and they are sure that the OSCE Minsk Group is the best forum for advancing the discussions in order to reach agreement in the conflict situation.   

In the Ambassador’s words, acknowledging that the given issue can be discussed in any forum, the UK supports the OSCE Minsk Group and wants to see the development of that process and reaching of an agreement. According to her, they see no reasons why the format should be changed and that the issue is not subject to discussion.

On November 4, the PACE Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy adopted the British MP Robert Walter’s report titled "The escalation of violence in Nagorno Karabakh and the other occupied territories of Azerbaijan," which is unacceptable for Armenia.   The report will be debated by the Assembly at its January session.
