YEREVAN. - The UK welcomes the preparation to the signing of an agreement beneficial for both Armenia and EU, the newly-appointed UK Ambassador to Armenia Judith Farnworth told Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent, referring to the prospects of relations between Armenia and EU following the signing of the new legal document.

In the ambassador’s words, in the beginning of the current week, rather fruitful discussions between the Brussels and Armenian side representatives took place. These discussions, according to Ms Farnworth, aimed at identifying the spheres for the future agreement.

The Ambassador also said that the UK welcomes the decision on providing legal mandate for the further advancement of talks. According to her, the Armenian side greatly strives to include as many spheres as possible in the future agreement.  Ms. Farnworth thinks   there is a reason for optimism and discussions at the outset of this week ensured a good basis for talks, which will be launched during the coming months.

The 16th session of the Armenian-EU Cooperation Committee was held in Yerevan Wednesday. During the session, issues on the future agreement between EU and Armenia, as well as those on trade, justice and security, transportation and energy, general economic development, multilateral cooperation, Karabakh issue and Armenian Turkish relations were discussed.

On October 12, FMs of EU member states adopted a mandate in Luxembourg for launching the talks between Armenia and EU on concluding a new legal document for future cooperation.
