YEREVAN. - About 2,000 workplaces may appear near the Azerbaijani border, Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Economy Emil Tarasyan said in the parliament today at the debate on the project of amendment to the Law on Tax Exemption of economic activity in border villages.

Tax exemption is also proposed to be applied to the companies in two border towns, Chambarak (Gegharkunik province) and Berd (Tavush province).

The list of the 31 beneficiary villages bordering with Azerbaijan will remain unaltered. Now 450 organizations there with an overall revenue of 1,1 billion AMD (approx. $2,3 million) use the exemptions.

According to Tarasyan, investors are already considering the opportunity to open several textile productions in Tavush province (where the majority of the mentioned villages are located), which will help solve the occupation issue. The exemptions will be applied after the corresponding governmental decree is adopted in addition to the law.
