Stepanakert Airport—of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR, or Artsakh) capital city—is technically ready to accept large cargo aircrafts.

Former head of the NKR Civil Aviation Department, Dmitry Atbashyan, stated about the aforementioned at a press conference on Saturday.

Atbashyan, reflecting on NKR President Bako Sahakyan’s recent announcement that they are prepared to make this airport available in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), stressed that the President of Artsakh knows the capability of Stepanakert Airport very well.

He informed that the airport has a night vision system, too.

“Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh have a shared air navigation system; this capability is of very great strategic importance,” Dmitry Atbashyan added. “We [also] have fourth generation equipment that can inform about the weather conditions without human intervention.”
