The Union of Armenians of Russia (UAR) supports the bill on criminalizing Armenian Genocide denial, and asks the State Duma Chairman and the four political groups in the Duma to support this document, UAR Chairman Ara Abrahamyan said in a message.

“We believe that this [bill] is in the interests of strengthening the security of the RF [i.e. the Russian Federation]. (…) The adoption of such a law in the RF will create a major and systemic mechanism in the fight against the falsification and distortion of the historical facts (…) of the Armenian Genocide. (…) It also creates a real basis for preventing the recurrence of such actions by the Government of Turkey. I thank Russia for the consistent and objective position on the condemnation of the Armenian Genocide,” Abrahamyan’s message specifically states.

The said bill, which was introduced last week to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of Russia, calls for holding Turkey accountable for denial of the Armenian Genocide.
