The French National Assembly (NA) on Thursday debated the bill tabled by NA member Valérie Boyer.

The draft law prohibits the denial of genocides and crimes against humanity that were committed in the 20th century, especially the denial of the Armenian Genocide.

The NA decided to forward this bill to a special committee, and for respective debates.

Before the relevant voting, however, Boyer took the floor and stressed that France needs to defend the genocide law.

MP François Rochebloine, for his part, noted that it was back during his visit to Armenia that French President François Hollande had pledged to approve this bill.
