Stephen Blank, who is a senior fellow at the American Foreign Policy Council, believes that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can be resolved solely if the US participates more actively in the settlement process, reported the Voice of America Armenian Service.
In the analyst’s view, such a prospect has become more likely in recent times.
Renowned Turkish historian, sociologist and publicist Taner Akçam, who is also Chair in Armenian Genocide Studies at Clark University in the US State of Massachusetts, is of the view that the current deterioration of Russian-Turkish relations could have a negative impact on the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.
Akçam said Karabakh could become a battlefield of war between Turkey and Russia. In the historian’s view, Ankara’s recent actions in the South Caucasus bespeak such a threat.
As per Taner Akçam, once the Russia-Turkey relations got worse, Azerbaijan was the first “door” the Turkish government had “knocked on.”
According to American analysts, the forthcoming Karabakh talks between the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan will be held under quite difficult conditions.
