YEREVAN. – Between 2010 and 2014, inflation stood at 6 percent in Armenia.

Director of the “Consumers Association of Armenia” NGO, Armen Poghosyan, stated the above-said at a press conference on Saturday.

In his words, especially the prices of milk, sugar, beef, and pork increased considerably in the country during this period.

Sociologist Aharon Adibekyan, for his part, presented statistics.

Accordingly, the monthly minimum consumer basket in Armenia makes up 60,000 drams (approx. US$123.82).

“The [monthly] income of around 90 percent of the [country’s] population is less than this amount,” Adibekyan added. “Poverty makes up 23 percent in the provinces of the republic; the average poverty level in the republic is 17 percent. The rich [people] in our country are approximately 8 to 10 percent; the rest live quite frugally.”
