YEREVAN. – We are speaking about the Armenian Genocide not because it is pleasing to us, but because the topic of genocides is still relevant today, and they continue especially in this region.
Armenian Presidential Chief of Staff Vigen Sargsyan, who is also coordinator of the Armenian Genocide Centennial commemorations, on Thursday stated the aforesaid at a talk—in capital city Yerevan—with members of the European Democrat Students (EDS), which is a pan-European student and youth political association.
The EDS members are in Yerevan along the lines of their Council meeting.
Sargsyan stressed that 2015 is a special year for Armenians, since it marks the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
But he noted that despite this calamity, the Armenian people have managed to survive and regain statehood.
Vigen Sargsyan said Turkey continues to deny the Armenian Genocide, and thus, it starts new genocides.
He noted that the objective of the Armenian Genocide Centennial commemorations is to convey the truth to the world and prevent further such crimes.
The speaker added that the Armenians will continue urging Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide, and confront history.
At the end of his talk, Vigen Sargsyan responded to the questions posed by the European youth in attendance.
