YEREVAN. – There is already 10 percent inflation, ahead of New Year, at the fairs and supermarkets in capital city Yerevan.
Director of the “Consumers Association of Armenia” NGO, Armen Poghosyan, stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Monday.
He added that this inflation is expected to reach up to 20 percent.
“Primarily the products that are connected with the New Year’s table, especially legumes, are getting more expensive,” Poghosyan said. “The price hikes are going to start just now.”
The expert noted that the current year will be extraordinary in Armenia in the negative sense, since the increase in the electricity tariff also will have an adverse effect on the prices of goods.
Armen Poghosyan also said there is no respective oversight in the country, and the Central Bank and the National Statistical Service should watch over the market.
