YEREVAN. – A private investor wants to invest in the duty-free business at Armenia’s borders.

The Deputy Minister of Economy, Garegin Melkonyan, on Monday stated the above-said at the National Assembly

He noted this as he introduced the draft changes, pursuant to which the duty-free stores at the country’s land border crossings also will be exempt from paying the value-added tax (VAT).

At present, solely the duty-free shops at Armenia’s airports are exempt from the VAT.

Melkonyan added than once these changes go into effect, the said investor plans to devote up to €1 million to open such stores at the country’s border crossings with Georgia.
