YEREVAN. – Azerbaijan tenses up the climate not solely at the line of contact, but also on the diplomatic front.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Shavarsh Kocharyan, on Thursday told the aforementioned to reporters.

In his words, in the diplomatic domain, Baku distorts the Nagorno-Karabakh negotiation process and violates international law.

“Azerbaijan’s position is the same in both the military and diplomatic domains,” Kocharyan said. “From the very beginning, Azerbaijan was conducting power politics in the Karabakh [conflict] settlement [process], which it hasn’t given up to this day. And based on this very fact, it’s impossible to expect any progress in the process of Karabakh conflict settlement.”

In the Armenian deputy FM’s view, the international community should become aware over the course of time that the only way to resolve this conflict is recognition of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

And commenting on the fact that the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group Co-Chairs are expressing their positions in a more addressed manner in recent times, Shavarsh Kocharyan said: “In my view, this is just the beginning. The Co-Chairs always seek to maintain balance. However, it’s already apparent that there is progress. (…) The addressee [i.e. Azerbaijan] is already clearly seen in their statements. And if Azerbaijan doesn’t return to realities, this process will deepen.”
